Who’s paying for what?
Every property in the country is subject to council tax. It’s a tax levied on households by a local authority (Ceredigion County Council in our case) and it’s based on the estimated value of the property, along with the number of people living in the property. Everyone is liable to pay council tax whether you’re renting or buying, so it’s important to stay on top of your council tax.
As a landlord once your property is tenanted you will no longer be liable for the council tax, as your tenants will be liable for it. Once the tenancy expires however then the obligation to pay the council tax will return to you the landlord, until another tenant is found.
